Wooden Toys Playground is a lovely playgroup based in Stockbridge, close the the centre of Edinburgh. The group is the brainchild of local resident Sarah Miller and caters for parents and children under 3.5. When I visited a couple of weeks ago it was really well attended with a lovely calm atmosphere ( quite hard to achieve in a room full of 30 or so little ones! ) Spread over two spacious halls, with high ceilings, 30 odd tots investigate the unique playthings made of wood and natural materials – one of very few playgroups in the city with no plastic. It was really lovely to see the kids enjoying stimulating and imaginative play with natural materials such as pine cones and found objects like old pans alongside more conventional wooden toys such as trikes and building blocks. Wooden Toys Playground runs on a Thursday morning from 9.30 to 11am at St Stephens church in Stockbridge. You can follow them on Facebook here. If you live locally and have little ones do try and make it along, I certainly enjoyed my morning with them !
