A relaxed, colourful wedding by the sea at Bellfield Portobello
Ailsa & Euan were married at Bellfield Portobello last May, and their wedding day was everything you’d hope for from a spring celebration by the sea, fun, relaxed, colourful, and absolutely bursting with love. From start to finish, it was a joy to photograph, full of laughter, and warmth.
Set just a short walk from the beach, Bellfield is such a brilliant venue for couples looking for a laid-back, community-focused wedding space in Edinburgh. Ailsa & Euan’s day made full use of Bellfield’s relaxed atmosphere. The colourful spring details and seaside setting created the perfect backdrop for a wedding that felt informal, joyful, and deeply personal.
One of the loveliest things about Ailsa & Euan’s wedding was how many of the suppliers were also close friends and family. It gave the whole day a real sense of connection and community. Ailsa’s sister Hazel of Baern Cafe & Bakery took on the impressive task of catering for the day, all while also being a bridesmaid. The food was incredible and clearly made with so much love. The beautiful, vibrant florals were created by Ailsa’s friend Helen of Nelfin Studio, adding even more colour and personality to the day
Alongside the emotional moments, there were plenty of laughs too. One of my favourite moments happened as we were heading up the street for the ceremony. A car screeched to a halt beside us and a woman leapt out in a hurry—it turned out she was a kilt fitter, and she’d spotted that Ailsa’s son was wearing his kilt back to front! She simply couldn’t pass by without fixing it. Moments like that are what make weddings so memorable—completely unexpected, hilarious, and full of kindness.
Bellfield is such a special place to get married. Following a community buy-out in 2016, it’s now a vibrant community hub in the heart of Portobello, making it an ideal venue for couples planning a DIY, relaxed, non-traditional wedding in Edinburgh. It’s flexible spaces, welcoming atmosphere, and strong community roots make it perfect for weddings that are personal, creative, and a little bit different, just like Ailsa & Euan’s.
