A Personal Brand Shoot with Leith Based Silversmith Bryony Knox
I had the pleasure of photographing my lovely friend and incredibly talented silversmith, Bryony Knox, at her fascinating Coburg House Studio in Leith. Bryony is a creative powerhouse, specialising in the traditional silversmithing techniques of repoussé and chasing, using pine pitch and a myriad of steel punches to create beautiful, functional silver sculptures.
This year is a big milestone for Bryony, she’s celebrating 25 years in business! After eight years since our last shoot, she decided it was the perfect time for some updated personal brand photography to showcase her work, her studio, and her personality.
Personal brand photography isn’t just about portrait, it’s about telling the story of who you are, what you do, and how you work. For creatives like Bryony, this means capturing both the artistry behind her work and her approach to her craft. During the shoot, we focused on relaxed, natural moments: Bryony at her bench, working with her tools, shaping and chasing silver, and interacting with her space in a way that felt completely genuine.
The session was designed to reflect Bryony’s personality, showing potential clients, workshop attendees, and collaborators not just the final work, but the skill, dedication, and passion that goes into every piece. For Bryony, the images help communicate her expertise, her unique style, and her approachable personality, key elements for a silversmith who also teaches workshops and engages with a creative community.
A big part of Bryony’s brand is her fascinating studio at Coburg House, where she not only creates her pieces but also hosts workshops and runs courses. The studio itself is full of character, packed with inspiring corners that tell the story of a working creative space that is totally Bryony. Capturing these details helps convey her expertise and the hands-on experience she offers to students, giving potential workshop attendees a real sense of what it’s like to learn and create alongside her.
By the end of the shoot, Bryony had a versatile collection of updated images to use across her website, social media, and promotional materials. From candid shots of her working to portraits in her studio, these photos help tell her story as a Leith based silversmith and creative professional.
