Emily & Rory | Edinburgh City Chambers & The Bonham
An Intimate Edinburgh Wedding at the City Chambers & The Bonham Hotel.
There’s something wonderfully romantic about a small wedding in Edinburgh. With its historic architecture, winding old streets and timeless atmosphere, the city feels made for intimate celebrations, and Emily & Rory’s beautiful wedding was no exception.
With a ceremony at the City Chambers, followed by an elegant reception at The Bonham Hotel the day was filled with effortless style, and the kind of quiet joy that makes photographing small weddings so special.
The City Chambers provided the perfect setting for the couple’s intimate ceremony. Steeped in history and surrounded by the character of Edinburgh’s Old Town, it offered an elegant backdrop without ever taking attention away from what mattered most. With only their closest family and friends there to share the occasion, the atmosphere was beautifully personal.
After the ceremony, we took some time to wander through the Old Town for photographs with a pit stop for some photos at the very cool Stills Automat . Rather than making the photographs feel overly posed, we kept things relaxed and natural, allowing the couple to simply enjoy being together. A quiet walk through the city became an opportunity to capture the newlyweds as they really were, completely wrapped up in the excitement of their day.
One of my favourite things about photographing a city wedding is how much variety can be found within such a small area. From the grandeur of the City Chambers to the character of the Old Town streets, Edinburgh provides a wonderful mixture of architecture and atmosphere. The historic surroundings add a sense of occasion to the photographs, while the quieter moments between locations create something much more personal.
For an intimate wedding, this approach works particularly well. There’s no need to disappear for hours taking photographs. Instead, we can take a short wander, pause when the light is beautiful, and capture the two of you enjoying the city together. The result is a collection of photographs that tells the story of the day while also capturing a little piece of Edinburgh.
From the Old Town, the celebrations continued at The Bonham Hotel in Edinburgh’s West End. The Bonham is such a beautiful choice for an intimate wedding reception. Its elegant interiors, classic architecture and relaxed atmosphere provided the perfect contrast to the historic surroundings of the ceremony.
For couples considering a smaller wedding in Edinburgh, there is so much to love about this kind of celebration. You can embrace the history and atmosphere of the city, choose beautiful surroundings without needing a huge guest list, and create a wedding day that feels completely personal to you. And from a photography perspective, these intimate celebrations are an absolute joy to document.
Because ultimately, the photographs aren’t just about how the day looked. They’re about how it felt.
