A magical surprise proposal on Calton Hill Edinburgh

On an absolutely glorious morning in September, I had the joy of capturing a truly magical moment – Kaleena’s proposal to Alissa at the stunning Calton Hill in Edinburgh. The day was perfect, clear skies, golden sunlight, and that unmistakable sense of anticipation in the air. Videographer Aaron from Reel Weddings UK and I arrived nice and early to make sure everything was perfectly set up, along with a very nervous (but excited!) Kaleena, who had meticulously planned the moment down to the very last detail.

Calton Hill is such a remarkable location for proposals, and it’s easy to see why. With sweeping views over Edinburgh, iconic monuments, and the dramatic backdrop of Holyrood Park and the city skyline, it’s a place that feels both intimate and epic at the same time. For same-sex couples, it offers a welcoming, inclusive space to celebrate love in a way that feels authentic and joyful. Kaleena had chosen the perfect spot, and thankfully, everything went exactly to plan—Alissa said yes!

After capturing the proposal, we spent some time creating beautiful couple portraits. The morning light highlighted the Edinburgh skyline and the rolling greenery of Holyrood Park, giving Kaleena and Alissa some truly timeless images. It was one of those mornings where everything aligns, the location, the weather, and the couple’s natural chemistry, resulting in photos that genuinely capture the love and excitement of the day.
