A surprise Proposal in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh
Edinburgh in August is magical, but it’s also incredibly busy. With the city alive with the energy of the festivals and visitors from all over the world, finding a quiet, secluded spot can be quite the challenge. So when Max first got in touch from New York to plan a surprise proposal for Katie, I knew we had a little mission on our hands.
Max and I spent weeks planning every detail from across the Atlantic. His vision was simple but meaningful: somewhere peaceful, beautiful, away from the crowds and with a view of the city where he could ask Katie to marry him.
Despite August being one of the busiest times of year in Edinburgh, we managed to find the perfect corner in Holyrood Park. With sweeping views of the city, rugged landscapes and that unmistakable Edinburgh charm, it made the perfect backdrop for such a special moment.
Why Holyrood Park is perfect for a proposal
Holyrood Park is one of the most beautiful places in Edinburgh and an incredible location for a proposal. With dramatic landscapes, views across the city and quieter hidden spots away from the main paths, it offers the perfect combination of romance and privacy, even during the busy summer months. For couples visiting Scotland, it’s also one of the most iconic places to experience Edinburgh’s natural beauty right in the heart of the city.
A special place for Katie
Max had never been to Scotland before, but Katie had spent a lot of time here while she was a student, working with a children’s theatre troupe that travelled around the country. Scotland holds a lot of special memories for her, which made Edinburgh the perfect place for this moment.
On the day, the plan was simple. I blended into the scenery with my camera ready while Katie and Max walked through the park taking in the views. When they reached the quiet spot we’d chosen, Max got down on one knee and asked the big question. Katie’s reaction was pure joy, a mixture of surprise, laughter and happy tears. But the surprises didn’t stop there. Shortly after she said yes, their friends appeared with banners to celebrate the moment, making the whole experience even more magical. After the celebrations (and lots of hugs!) we spent some time wandering through the park capturing the excitement of their newly engaged glow.
Katie and Max’s proposal was such a joy to capture — two people travelling across the world to start a brand new chapter together in one of Edinburgh’s most iconic places. Congratulations again, Katie & Max. What a perfect way to begin your engagement. 💍✨
