Portobello beach family session

Family Photography in Portobello | Deena, James & Baby Rowan

I loved working with Deena & James on their wedding day back in 2022, so I was absolutely delighted when they welcomed little Rowan into their family and asked me to capture some special moments with them at their local Portobello beach. We started the session at their favourite spot on the beach, a place that holds so many memories for them. Walking along the sand, watching Rowan’s explorations of the shoreline, and capturing the joyful, playful interactions between him and his parents made for some lovely moments. There’s something really special about photographing families in places that are meaningful to them, it adds a depth and authenticity that can’t be replicated in a studio.

After some time on the beach, we headed back to their home. Photographing families in their own spaces is always lovely, especially with young children. It gives the session a relaxed, natural feel and allows me to capture moments of everyday life, Rowan exploring and playing and even the family cats joining in! These at home images aren’t just photograph, they’re memories of their life together in the spaces they love.

What I love most about sessions like this is how relaxed and fun they feel. With familiar locations and people who are comfortable being themselves, it’s easy to capture genuine smiles, playful moments, and tender interactions. From beach adventures to cozy at-home snuggles, the final collection of images is a mix of beachside fun, quiet family moments, and little everyday details, all photographed in the spaces that mean the most to them.
